Chally in Shock Departure!

Challinor 1

Departing manager Dave Challinor

Colwyn Bay manager Dave Challinor has left his post at Llanelian Road. The promotion winning boss quit as Bay boss on Tuesday night to join Evo-Stik North side AFC Fylde, with play-off hero Jon Newby replacing him as first team manager.

Newby, who netted the match winning goal in last season’s play-off final with FC United, said he was delighted to take the role, and said it was "business as usual" at the Bay.  Jon says he wants to help move the club forward and is looking forward to the challenge stating “This is a fantastic club with fantastic people running it and I am looking forward to helping them move it forward and continue the great work that Chally and Colin have done."

Jon Newby Celebrates after securing promotion.

He admitted "It’s probably come a little earlier than I would have liked, but I’m pleased to have been given the chance. Jon also indicated that he would be looking to bring in an experienced assistant with previous links to Colwyn Bay, but didn’t expect a new number two to arrive before this weekend’s game against Blyth Spartans.  Jon said "I will be having a talk with the chairman over the next couple of days, but I don’t really want to bring in an outsider; we need someone who knows the club and just what it means to the people who run it and support it.

Looking ahead, Newbs added: "We are in a strong position in the league with a good bunch of lads and I will be looking to keep things ticking over with as little upheaval as possible."

Seagulls Soar into the Conference!

I was lucky enough to get to see Colwyn Bay FC play out an exciting play-off final against FC United of Manchester on Monday 2nd May.

With most people backing FC United to win the match , I took my space near the dug-outs with a sense of hope but some concern for the outcome.

A huge crowd had turned up with a considerable number standing on the hill outside the ground. FC United’s fans easily over shadowed the Colwyn Bay supporters with their chanting and singing, if this was how you won a football match Colwyn Bay would have been out of it by Kick Off!

After a goalless first half, nerves were shredded as United took the game to The Bay. Gaps began appearing as FC United pushed forward, and Jon Newby took advantage for Colwyn Bay. He ran past the FC United defence to fire home from the right hand side of the box. This sent the home fans in to a frenzy and The Bay in to the Conference!

Dave Chalinor, Colwyn Bay’s Player/Manager was quoted in the Pioneer as saying “It’s a fantastic achievement, no-one expected at the start of the season that we would be here” adding “The lads have been amazing all season!”

I just want to add my congratulations and say “BRING ON NEXT SEASON!”

Bay get Promoted!

Colwyn Bay FC will play in the Blue Square North Division next year after a thrilling win over FC United of Manchester at their Llanelian Road Ground.

I went up to the Llanelian Road ground today for my first visit to Colwyn Bay FC. I can tell you now that it will not be my last.

I got a really good welcome from the staff and had a great view of the game. Cheap as chips as well! The only problem was that I kept getting bothered by a large annoying Seagull!

The game itself was brilliant! Colwyn Bay started slowly with the first half ending all square, but a different team came out for the second half. They played some great football and scored two good goals, the second being a cracking left foot volley from the edge of the box.

Their next game will be at Llanelian Road against North Ferriby in the play offs! So if you’re free, come and support your local team. I’ll be there!
